About the Author
Barry A. Burd is an author, professor, and software developer who has been teaching computer science to college students for more than 25 years. He was the department chair of Mathematics and Computer Science at Drew University in Madison, New Jersey for 8 years. Since 2008 he’s been teaching at Mercer County Community College and developing web-based software applications.
Barry has written five books — Java For Dummies, Eclipse For Dummies, Beginning Programming with Java For Dummies, Android Application Development All-in-One For Dummies, and Android Phones & Tablets For Dummies. He has also contributed to major magazines such as PC Magazine and Macworld.
Barry has been an avid developer of software for more than 35 years. He particularly loves developing Android and Java-based software applications, but he has also programmed in numerous other languages including C++, Visual Basic, Pascal, and FORTRAN.
He’s a firm believer that technology should not be intimidating or difficult to understand for the average person. His books are designed to make learning and understanding technology easy. He also loves teaching people how to write software programs, which is why he wrote Java For Dummies.
