Cheryl Strayed is the author of Wild: From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail, which was published in 2012. The book is a memoir of Strayed’s 1,100-mile hike along the Pacific Crest Trail from Mexico to Canada.

Strayed was born in 1968 and grew up in Minnesota. She earned a BA from the University of Minnesota in 1990 and an MFA from Syracuse University in 1992. After her marriage ended and her mother died, Strayed began hiking the Pacific Crest Trail as a way to cope with her grief.

Wild was a bestseller and has been translated into more than 40 languages. It was adapted into a 2014 film starring Reese Witherspoon.

Strayed’s other books include the novel Torch (2006) and the essay collection Tiny Beautiful Things (2012). She is also the author of the Dear Sugar advice column, which was adapted into a podcast in 2015. Strayed currently lives in Portland, Oregon with her husband and two children.
