It tells the story of two women from Afghanistan who suffer through the struggles of living under Taliban rule.

About the Author
Hosseini was born in Kabul, Afghanistan, in 1965. His father was a diplomat in the Afghan Foreign Ministry and his mother taught Farsi and history at a high school for girls. In 1970, Hosseini’s family moved to Iran, and he did not return to Afghanistan until 2001.
Hosseini is the author of three novels, The Kite Runner (2003), A Thousand Splendid Suns (2007), and And the Mountains Echoed (2013). He has also published a collection of short stories, titled Tales from the Thousand and One Nights (2010).
Hosseini’s novels have been translated into over seventy languages. His works have sold over fifty million copies worldwide and have been adapted into film and stage productions.
Hosseini is a Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). He has also established The Khaled Hosseini Foundation, a nonprofit organization that provides humanitarian assistance to the people of Afghanistan.
