About the Author
Jennifer Niven is an American author, best known for her young adult novel, All the Bright Places.
Niven was born in Indianapolis, Indiana, on December 17, 1963. She graduated from Kenyon College in 1985 with a degree in English literature. After college, she worked as a journalist for People magazine and as a script reader in Hollywood.
Niven’s first novel, The Ice Master, was published in 2000. The book is based on the true story of an arctic expedition that went disastrously wrong.
In an interview, Niven said that she was inspired to write All the Bright Places after hearing about the suicide of a high school student. The book took her ten years to write and was published in 2014.
She won the American Library Association’s William C. Morris Award for All the Bright Places, and the book has been translated into over thirty languages. Niven currently lives in Los Angeles, California, with her husband and two children.
