About the Author
Stephen King is the author of Carrie. He was born in Portland, Maine, in 1947. King’s first novel, Carrie, was published in 1974. since then, he has published more than fifty books, including The Shining, Misery, The Dark Tower series, and On Writing.
In 2003, King was awarded the National Book Foundation Medal for Distinguished Contribution to American Letters. He is the recipient of the 2014 National Medal of Arts and the 2003 National Book Foundation Medal for Distinguished Contribution to American Letters.
King has also written screenplays, including Misery, The Shawshank Redemption, and The Green Mile. He is the co-creator of the television series Castle Rock. King lives in Bangor, Maine with his wife, novelist Tabitha King. They have three children: Naomi, Joe, and Owen.
King was born in Portland, Maine, on September 21, 1947, the second son of Donald Edwin King and Nellie Ruth Pillsbury. After his parents separated when Stephen was a toddler, he and his older brother, David, were raised by his mother. When King was eleven years old, his family moved to Durham, Maine.
