The book starts of with Greg Heffley being woken up by his mother on a Saturday morning. He then proceeds to go downstairs, where he is greeted by his father and brother. The family then eats breakfast together and talks about their plans for the day.
After breakfast, Greg goes upstairs to his room and starts to think about what he should do for the day. He eventually decides to go outside and ride his bike around the neighborhood. As he is riding, he thinks about how bored he is and how there isn’t anything fun to do. He then comes up with the idea to start a business selling lemonade.
He goes home and gets everything set up, but no one comes to buy his lemonade. And then has the idea to give away free samples, which entices people to buy his lemonade. After a while, Greg has made enough money and decides to call it a day.

About the Author
Jeff Kinney is an American author and cartoonist. He is best known for Diary of a Wimpy Kid, an illustrated novel series about middle school student Greg Heffley. The series has been published in more than fifty countries and translated into over thirty languages. In 2009, Kinney was named one of Time magazine’s 100 Most Influential People in the World. His novels have also been adapted into two films.
Kinney was born in Fort Washington, Maryland, on February 19, 1971, to an insurance salesman father and a homemaker mother. He has an older brother named Pat. As a child, Kinney found escape in reading and daydreaming. When he was ten years old, his family moved to New England, where he attended middle school. In 1990, Kinney graduated from the University of Maryland with a bachelor’s degree in computer science.
After college, Kinney became a newspaper designer and then an online game developer. He also created Poptropica, an online role-playing game for kids.
In 1998, Kinney’s wife, Julie, suggested that he start writing down his ideas for a children’s book. The result was Diary of a Wimpy Kid, which chronicles the adventures of middle school student Greg Heffley. Kinney self-published the novel online in 2004. The book became popular and caught the attention of publishers.
