About the Author
Pam Muñoz Ryan is the acclaimed author of over thirty books for young readers, including the Newbery Honor-winning Esperanza Rising and the bestselling picture book When Marian Sang.
Her award-winning novels include Becoming Naomi León, Riding Freedom, mint car, and Paint the Wind. Pam’s latest novel, Echo, won the 2016 Pura Belpré Award and was a National Book Award Finalist.
Pam was born in Bakersfield, California to Mexican parents. She grew up in a migrant farmworker family and did not learn English until she was eight years old. Despite the language barrier, Pam loved reading and writing from an early age.
After high school, Pam attended college on a scholarship. She earned a BA in English from San Diego State University and an MA in Education from UCLA.
Pam has worked as a teacher, a librarian, and a college professor. She now writes full-time. Pam lives in Northern California with her husband and three children.
