About the Author
Hal Varian is an American economist, known for his work in microeconomics and information economics. He is currently a Professor Emeritus at the University of California, Berkeley in the School of Information and Department of Economics. He has also been a chief economist at Google from 2006 to 2016.
Varian received his BA from MIT in 1965 and went on to get both his MA and Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley in 1967 and 1973 respectively. He has held numerous positions over the years including being a Senior Fellow at Stanford’s Institute for Economic Policy Research, a Visiting Professor at Oxford University, as well as visiting professor posts at various other universities.
