James does as he’s told and soon a giant peach starts to grow. One night, James sneaks out to the peach and crawls inside. He meets some new friends including a ladybug, a grasshopper, an earthworm, and more.
Together, they all work to get the peach rolling. They eventually make it all the way to New York City where they have a big adventure. James even gets to meet his hero, John Lennon! In the end, they all safely return home and live happily ever after.

About the Author
Roald Dahl (1916 – 1990) was a British novelist, short story writer, poet, screenwriter, and fighter pilot. His books have sold more than 250 million copies worldwide. Dahl is known for works such as James and the Giant Peach (1961), Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (1964), Matilda (1988), The Witches (1983), Fantastic Mr. Fox (1970), and The BFG (1982).
He also wrote the screenplay for Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (1968) and the screenplay for You Only Live Twice (1967). Dahl was born in Llandaff, Wales, to Norwegian parents. His father, Harald Dahl, was a shipbroker. His mother, Sofie Magdalene Dahl (née Hesselberg), was a homemaker. And his half-sister, Astri, died in infancy.
Dahl’s first language was Norwegian, which he spoke at home with his parents and his sisters Alfhild (b. 1913) and Else (b. 1915). His sisters were his best friends and played a large part in his education. Dahl and his sisters were raised in the Lutheran faith.
Dahl’s father had emigrated to the UK from Sarpsborg in Norway and settled in Cardiff, where he married Sofie Magdalene Hesselberg, who was Norwegian but had been brought up in Copenhagen, Denmark.
