Never Let Me Go Summary
Kazuo Ishiguro’s Never Let Me Go is a sci-fi novel with a deep emotional core. The story is set in an alternate version of England where clones are raised to provide organs for the wealthy. The clones, known as “donors,” are told from a young age that they will have to donate their organs once they reach adulthood.
The story follows the life of one clone, Kathy H., from her childhood at a school for clones to her adult years working as a carer for other clones. Along the way, Kathy falls in love with two other clones, Tommy and Ruth. However, their love is constantly overshadowed by the knowledge that they will have to say goodbye to each other once they reach the end of their lives.
Never Let Me Go is a heart-wrenching story about love, loss, and what it means to be human. It’s also a thought-provoking look at the ethics of cloning and organ donation.
