About the Author
Tom Bissell is an American author and journalist, who has written extensively on video games, films, literature, art, and culture. He is the author of six books, including The Disaster Artist: My Life In Film (2013), Extra Lives: Why Video Games Matter (2010), and God Lives in St. Petersburg (2005).
Tom Bissell was born on May 19 in Grosse Pointe, Michigan. He is the son of a doctor and nurse. Bissell graduated from Harvard University in 1997 with a degree in English literature and creative writing. After graduating, he worked as an editor at HarperCollins before moving to New York City to pursue a career as a freelance journalist.
Bissell has written for many well-known publications, including Grantland, The New Yorker, Harper’s Magazine, GQ, and Esquire. He also authored video game reviews for The New York Times Book Review and was a contributing editor at Wired magazine.
He also co-wrote Gears of War: The Slab, a graphic novel based on the popular Xbox game.
