About the Author
V.E. Schwab is the pen name of Victoria Schwab, an American author of fantasy novels and comic books. She was born in Lexington, Kentucky, on August 24, 1987. Schwab’s mother is a teacher and her father is an attorney. She has two older sisters.
Schwab graduated from Harriton High School in Rosemont, Pennsylvania, in 2005, and then attended Mary Baldwin College, where she studied creative writing and philosophy. After two years, she transferred to the University of Edinburgh in Scotland. She graduated in 2009 with a bachelor’s degree in English literature.
Schwab’s first novel, The Near Witch, was published in 2011. Her second novel, Vicious, was published in 2013. In 2014, she published her first young adult novel, This Savage Song. Schwab’s other works include the Shades of Magic series, the Monsters of Verity duology, and the Archived series.
In an interview, Schwab said that some of her favorite authors include Neil Gaiman, Scott Lynch, and George R.R. Martin. She has also cited Susanna Clarke’s Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell as a major influence on her writing.
