About the Author
Patrick Rothfuss (born June 6, 1973) is an American writer of epic fantasy. He is the author of The Kingkiller Chronicle, which won him several awards, including the 2007 Quill Award for Best Fantasy Novel (The Name of the Wind).
Rothfuss was born and raised in Wisconsin. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin–Stevens Point with a degree in English in 1999, and then attended the University of Wisconsin–Madison for a year before moving to Seattle, Washington. He began writing The Wise Man’s Fear in 2002 and finished it in early 2010. It was published on March 1, 2011, by DAW Books.
The Wise Man’s Fear debuted at number two on the New York Times Best Seller list for hardcover fiction and remained on the list for fourteen weeks. A film adaptation of The Kingkiller Chronicle is currently in development by 20th Century Fox.
Rothfuss has also written several short stories, including “The Road to Levinshir” (set in the world of The Kingkiller Chronicle) and “No Country for Old Gnomes” (set in the world of The Name of the Wind). He has also co-authored (with Travis Stever) the graphic novel The Adventures of the Princess and Mr. Whiffle: The Thing Beneath the Bed.
