Troublemaker: Surviving Hollywood and Scientology Summary

The book begins with Remini describing her childhood and her introduction to Scientology through her mother, who joined the church when Leah was 9 years old. She describes the appeal of the church to her family and how they became deeply involved in its teachings and practices. As she grew older, Remini became more active within the church, eventually rising to the level of “Operating Thetan” (OT) and becoming a prominent figure within the organization.

As Remini’s career as an actress took off, she found herself in increasingly high-profile positions within the church, including her role on the popular sitcom “The King of Queens.” However, she also began to have doubts about the church’s teachings and practices, and eventually, she decided to leave the church. The book details the process of leaving the church and the harassment and intimidation she says she and her family faced as a result.

The book also covers Remini’s personal journey after leaving the church. She talks about how she struggled to find her own voice, both in her personal life and in her career. She also talks about how the experience of leaving the church made her a more vocal advocate for the rights of former members and for the victims of abuse within the organization.
