About the Author
L. M. Montgomery is a beloved Canadian author best known for her 1908 novel Anne of Green Gables. She is also the author of numerous novels, stories, and poems. Her books have been translated into more than 20 languages and sold millions of copies worldwide.
Lucy Maud Montgomery was born in Clifton (now New London), Prince Edward Island, Canada, on November 30th, 1874. She was the daughter of Hugh John Montgomery and Clara Woolner Macneill Montgomery. Growing up, she was surrounded by nature, which heavily influenced her works. She wrote often about the beautiful landscapes of Prince Edward Island.
Montgomery studied at Prince of Wales College in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, from 1890 to 1894. During this time, she also took courses in literature and writing at Dalhousie University in Halifax. After graduating college, Montgomery worked as a teacher and then later became an editor for the Daily Echo newspaper in Halifax.
In 1901, L. M. Montgomery published her first book Anne of Green Gables and it was met with immediate success. She went on to write over 20 more books in her lifetime, as well as numerous stories and poems. Her works were often set in Prince Edward Island and focused on themes of home, family, community, romance, and nature.
