Yuval Noah Harari (born 24 February 1976) is an Israeli historian and a professor in the Department of History at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. He is the author of the international bestsellers Homo Deus: A Brief History of Tomorrow (2016), and Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind (2014).

Homo Deus

Harari was born on 24 February 1976 in Kiryat Ata, Israel, to parents who had emigrated from Romania. He was drafted into the Israeli Defence Forces in 1994 and served as an infantry officer in a commando unit. After completing his military service, he studied history at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, where he received his Ph.D. in 2002.

Harari’s first book, Special Forces in the War on Terror, was published in Hebrew in 2005. His second book, The History of the Present Illness: How AIDS Changed the Face of Medicine, was published in Hebrew in 2008 and won the Weinberg Foundation prize for best Israeli medical history book of the year.
