He then moved to New York City’s Greenwich Village, where he launched his literary career with the short stories “Miriam” (1945) and “Other Voices, Other Rooms” (1948).

Capote rose to prominence with the publication of In Cold Blood, which was inspired by real-life clutter murders. The book became a bestseller and was adapted into a film by Richard Brooks in 1967. Capote subsequently fell into a highly publicized, decades-long decline, during which he battled alcoholism and drug addiction. He died of an overdose in 1984 at the age of 59.
