It is the third novel in the Red Queen series and follows Mare Barrow, a girl with superpowers, as she is imprisoned by the Silver Elite.
Mare Barrow is a 17-year-old girl who lives in the poverty-ridden slums of the kingdom of Norta. She has a special ability to control electricity, which she uses to help her family and friends. However, when she is caught using her power by the Silver Elite, she is forced to use her power to serve them.
Mare is sent to prison where she meets Cal, the prince of Norta who is being held captive. Cal is a powerful Silver with the ability to control fire. He has been imprisoned because he refused to marry the king’s daughter, Mare. Mare and Cal form a plan to escape from prison, but their plan is foiled and they are captured by the king’s soldiers. They are brought before the king and are forced to marry each other.
Mare and Cal are now on the run from the king’s forces. They must find a way to escape and stop the king’s plans for new world order.

About the Author
Victoria Aveyard is an American author of young adult fantasy novels. She is best known for her Red Queen series. Her debut novel, Red Queen, was published in 2015 and was a New York Times bestseller. Aveyard’s other works include the novella Cruel Crown and the short story “Steel Scars”.
Aveyard was born in Massachusetts and grew up in Connecticut. She graduated from Hamilton College in 2012 with a degree in creative writing. Aveyard currently resides in Los Angeles, California.
She started writing Red Queen while she was working as a barista and studying for her master’s degree in screenwriting at the University of Southern California. Her book becomes a movie project of Warner Bros. and Temple Hill Entertainment with Amanda Silver as the scriptwriter.
Aveyard has said that she was inspired to write Red Queen after watching the film Snow White and the Huntsman. She was also inspired by her own experience growing up as a girl with red hair. In an interview with The Huffington Post, Aveyard said that she “wanted to write a story about a girl who was told she was powerless and then proved everyone wrong.”
