About the Author

Swami Rama was a spiritual master from the Himalayas who brought the ancient yogic and meditative practices of India to the West in the late 20th century. He was born in 1925 in Northern India and grew up as a young boy steeped in traditional Indian spirituality, learning Sanskrit, Vedic texts, and yoga under many great masters.

Living with the Himalayan Masters

At a very young age, Swami Rama was called upon by his teacher to leave his home and family and travel to the Himalayan region to be instructed in meditation and yoga. He spent many years living as a renunciant in caves, forests, and ashrams while receiving instruction from some of India’s greatest masters.

Swami Rama continued his spiritual training until the age of 30, when he was asked by his teacher to return home and teach the ancient ways. He spent many years teaching in India and eventually traveled to Europe and America where he founded ashrams, meditation centers, and universities. During his travels, Swami Rama wrote several books on yoga, meditation, and spirituality, including the classic book Living with the Himalayan Masters.

Living with the Himalayan Masters is a compilation of Swami Rama’s firsthand experiences as he was trained by various gurus in India. The book explores topics ranging from spiritual enlightenment to practical advice on how to live an authentic life of service and higher consciousness.
