About the Author

Phil Knight is an American businessman and the co-founder of Nike, Inc. He was born in Portland, Oregon, in 1938. Knight graduated from the University of Oregon with a degree in journalism in 1962. After college, he joined the Army and served as a medic in Vietnam.

Upon his return to the United States, Knight began working in the import-export business. It was during this time that he came up with the idea to start a company that would sell Japanese-made running shoes in the US market. In 1964, he founded Blue Ribbon Sports, which would eventually become Nike.

Knight has been married twice and has four children. He is a billionaire and one of the world’s richest men. In 2016, he was ranked by Forbes as the 23rd most powerful person in the world.
