The Big Short: Inside the Doomsday Machine PDF is a non-fiction book by Michael Lewis about the build-up of the United States housing bubble during the 2000s. The book was published on March 15, 2010, by W. W. Norton & Company. It spent 28 weeks on The New York Times best-seller list and won the 2011 Financial Times and McKinsey Business Book of the Year Award.
The book is based on the experiences of four groups of people who foresaw the crisis: hedge fund managers Michael Burry and Jeffrey Talpins, Morgan Stanley mortgage department head Howie Hubler, and Deutsche Bank trader Greg Lippmann. Lewis also interviewed members of Congress, Treasury officials, mortgage company executives, and rating agency analysts.
The book received mixed reviews. Critics praised its accessible style and excellent storytelling, but some found it too one-sided and questioned some of Lewis’s factual assertions. The Big Short book is available in multiple formats including pdf, ebook, and audiobook.

The Big Short Summary
It is the early 2000s, and the housing market is booming. Banks are making money hand over fist by giving out subprime mortgages to anyone who can fog a mirror, and rating agencies are rubber-stamping these toxic loans as AAA investments. But a handful of people see the bubble for what it is.
Among them is Michael Burry, a brilliant physician turned hedge-fund manager with Asperger’s syndrome and an obsessive personality. Burry bets against the housing market by buying credit default swaps, a form of insurance that will pay off if mortgage defaults rise.
Then there’s Mark Baum, a frustrated trader looking for the next big score. Baum and his misfits investigate the housing market and discover just how corrupt and dangerous it has become.
And finally, there are the brothers Charlie Ledley and Jamie Mai, two young investors who decide to put their life savings on the line to short the housing market.
