Rebecca Skloot is an American journalist and author. She is best known for her book, The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks, which was published in 2010.

The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks

Skloot was born in Seattle, Washington, and raised in Clarksville, Tennessee. She received her bachelor’s degree in biology from the University of Pittsburgh in 2002. She has written for The New York Times Magazine, O, The Oprah Magazine, Discover, and more. Skloot is a contributing editor at Popular Science magazine.

In 2011, Skloot was named one of Time magazine’s 100 Most Influential People. In 2015, she was awarded the AAAS Kavli Science Journalism Award.

Skloot currently lives in Boulder, Colorado with her husband and two dogs.
