The novel is narrated by Christopher Boone, a fifteen-year-old boy with an Autism Spectrum Disorder. He lives in Swindon, England with his father, who is not named in the novel. His mother died two years prior to the events of the story from a cancerous brain tumor.
The story begins with Christopher finding his neighbor’s dog, Wellington, dead with a garden fork sticking out of his side. Christopher becomes the prime suspect in the investigation and is questioned by the police. He decides to take matters into his own hands and sets out to find the real killer.
During his investigation, Christopher discovers that his mother was having an affair before she died. He also learns that his father had lied to him about her death, telling him that she died of a heart attack instead of cancer. These discoveries lead Christopher to have a breakdown, during which he runs away from home.
He is eventually found by his father and taken to the hospital. After being released, Christopher decides to move in with his mother’s sister, Judy. He also decides to continue his detective work and solve the mystery of Wellington’s death.
The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time ends with Christopher finding the killer and turning him into the police. The novel concludes with Christopher’s father telling him that he is proud of him and that he loves him.

About the Author
Mark Haddon is a British writer best known for his 2003 mystery novel, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time. He has also written numerous other novels and short stories, as well as screenplays and plays for stage and television.
Haddon was born in Northampton, England in 1965. He studied English at Oxford University and later worked as a journalist, editor, and teacher. In 2002, he published The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, which was an instant bestseller and won several awards, including the Whitbread Book of the Year Award.
Haddon has since published several other novels, including A Spot of Bother (2006) and The Red House (2012). He has also written for stage and screen, including the adaptation of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time into a successful play.
In addition to his writing work, Haddon is also a patron of several charities, including Autism Speaks and the National Autistic Society.
