Carlos Ruiz Zafón (born September 4, 1964) is a Spanish novelist. His novel The Shadow of the Wind (El shadow of the Wind in Spanish) has been translated into more than 40 languages and sold more than 15 million copies worldwide.

He is also the author of The Prince of Mist (El principito de la niebla), The Angel’s Game (El juego del angel), and Marina. His novels have been praised by critics all over the world, and he is considered one of the most popular Spanish authors of all time.

Zafón was born in Barcelona and studied at the University of Barcelona. He worked as a journalist for various newspapers before embarking on a career as a full-time writer. Zafón’s first novel, The Prince of Mist, was published in 1993 and was an instant success. His second novel, The Angel’s Game, was published in 2008 and won the Premio Planeta de Novela, one of Spain’s most prestigious literary prizes. His third novel, Marina, was published in 2011.

He currently lives in Los Angeles with his wife and two children.
