Dan Brown is an American author of thriller fiction, best known for the 2003 bestselling novel, The Da Vinci Code. Brown’s novels are published by Doubleday and have been translated into 52 languages. As of 2012, there are over 200 million copies of his books in print, making him one of the bestselling authors of all time.
Dan Brown was born on June 22, 1964, in Exeter, New Hampshire. He attended Phillips Exeter Academy where he learned Latin, Spanish and French, and graduated in 1982. He went on to study English and Spanish literature at Amherst College, graduating in 1986.
Prior to becoming a full-time author, Brown was a teacher of English and creative writing at Phillips Exeter Academy. He began his literary career in 1992 with the self-published digital book A Taste of My Dreams: An Erotic Adventure. His first traditionally published work, Digital Fortress, was released in 1998.
In 2000, Brown published the conspiracy thriller Angels & Demons, which featured Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon and was later made into a film starring Tom Hanks. The Da Vinci Code, published in 2003, is perhaps his most famous work. It too was adapted into a film, released in 2006 and starring Hanks.
