The Eye of the World Summary

About the Author

Robert Jordan was born in October 1948 in Charleston, South Carolina. He attended The Citadel, where he received a degree in physics. He served two tours of duty in Vietnam as a helicopter gunner. After the war, he returned to the United States and began writing.

The Eye of the World

Jordan’s first novel, The Fallon Blood, was published in 1980. He followed this with The Wheel of Time series, which was inspired by J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings. The series consists of fourteen books, the first of which is The Eye of the World. Jordan also wrote a prequel to the series, New Spring.

Jordan passed away in September 2007 from amyloidosis, a rare blood disease. He was working on the final book in the series at the time of his death. His wife, Harriet McDougal, oversaw the completion of the book, titled A Memory of Light.

The Wheel of Time series is widely considered to be one of the best examples of epic fantasy ever written. If you are a fan of the genre, then you owe it to yourself to read The Eye of the World. You will not be disappointed.
