The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe Summary
The book tells the story of four children—Peter, Susan, Edmund, and Lucy Pevensie—who are evacuated from London during World War II and sent to live in a country house called “the professor’s house”.
One day, while exploring the house, they find a wardrobe that leads to a magical land called Narnia. Narnia is ruled by an evil queen called the White Witch, who has kept the land in eternal winter. There they meet Aslan, a talking lion who is the King of Narnia. The evil White Witch has put a curse on Narnia so that it is always winter and never Christmas. The children help Aslan to defeat the White Witch and her armies and return springtime and happiness to Narnia.
The novel follows the classic hero’s journey story arc and has been interpreted as an allegory for the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ. The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe has been adapted into several films and stage productions. It is one of the best-selling books of all time and is considered a classic of children’s literature.

About the Author
This amazing book was written by English author, C.S. Lewis. He was born in Belfast, Ireland on November 29, 1898, and passed away on November 22, 1963, at the age of 64.
Lewis was a remarkable man who not only wrote The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe but also the other five books in The Chronicles of Narnia series. He was also a professor of medieval and renaissance literature at both Oxford and Cambridge Universities. In addition to all of that, he was a prolific writer of non-fiction works on Christianity.
Lewis was deeply religious, and his faith informed much of his work. The Chronicles of Narnia are allegorical stories that deal with Christian themes, and The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe is no exception.
In this book, Aslan the lion represents Christ, while the evil White Witch is a stand-in for Satan. Lewis’ intention was to create a world in which good would triumph over evil, just as he believed it would in the real world.
