About the Author

Terry Brooks is an American writer who has been writing since the 1970s and is most well-known for his The Sword of Shannara book series. Brooks was born in Sterling, Illinois on January 8th, 1944. He attended Hamilton College and received a degree in history and went on to pursue law at the National College of Law in Chicago.

After completing his studies, Brooks worked as a practicing lawyer, but wrote in his spare time and eventually published his first novel in 1977. His debut novel known as The Sword of Shannara was the first ever fantasy book to make it onto The New York Times bestseller list and propelled him into fame and success.

Since then he has gone on to write over 30 books, with over 22 million copies sold. His works include The Sword of Shannara trilogy, the Genesis of Shannara series, and various other stand-alone novels.

Brooks has also been involved in a number of projects throughout his career, from writing comic books to creating the baseball card game “Shannaraball” in the 1980s. He has also had his works adapted into television series, such as The Shannara Chronicles which aired in 2016.
