Khalid is the Caliph of Khorasan and a skilled warrior. He’s also incredibly handsome and charming. Shahrzad initially believes that he’s a monster but comes to see the good in him over time. The book is told from both Shahrzad’s and Khalid’s perspectives, which gives readers a well-rounded view of the story.

Renee Ahdieh is the New York Times bestselling author of The Wrath and the Dawn and The Rose and the Dagger. She was born in North Carolina, but spent most of her childhood in various parts of Asia, including Pakistan, Thailand, and Viet Nam. In her spare time, she enjoys reading (especially fantasy novels), playing video games, eating sushi, and spending time with her husband and children.

Renee Ahdieh’s debut novel, The Wrath and the Dawn, was inspired by One Thousand and One Nights (also known as The Arabian Nights). His other works include The Beautiful and the Cursed and The Witch of Willow Hall.
