About the Author
Lauren Oliver is the author of Before I Fall, as well as several other young adult novels including Panic and Vanishing Girls.
She was born in New York City in 1982 and grew up in Greenwich, Connecticut. She attended the University of Chicago, where she studied English and history.
After college, she worked for a publishing company in New York City. Her debut novel, Before I Fall, was published in 2010 and became a bestseller. She currently lives in Seattle, Washington with her husband and two cats.
In an interview, Lauren Oliver said this about writing Before I Fall: “The idea for the book came to me while I was on a plane. I was reading an article in Time magazine about Groundhog Day, and I started thinking about what would happen if someone had to relive the same day over and over again. And I was also interested in exploring the idea of what it means to be popular, and how our actions can have unexpected consequences. I thought it would be interesting to write a book about a character who is forced to confront her own mortality and to question the choices she has made in her life.”
