Cinder Summary
The book starts off with Cinder, a 16-year-old cyborg who lives in New Beijing, being brought to the palace by her stepsister Peony and best friend Iko to fix the emperor’s android. While she is working, Kai, the emperor’s son and heir to the throne comes in and starts talking to her. Cinder is attracted to him, but she is nervous because she is a cyborg and he is a prince.
Cinder’s stepmother, Adri, who is also the emperor’s head advisor, comes in and tells Cinder to leave. As Cinder is leaving, Kai asks her to come back the next day to fix his android. The next day, Cinder comes back and Kai asks her to dinner. Cinder is hesitant at first, but she agrees.
At dinner, they talk about their families and Cinder tells Kai about her mother dying of the plague when she was young and her father remarrying Adri. Kai confides in Cinder that his father is dying of the same plague and that Adri is pushing for him to marry Levana, the princess of Luna. Cinder is horrified because she knows that Levana is actually an evil ruler who kills people for fun.
