Nicola Yoon is a Jamaican-American author who was born in New York City. She is best known for her debut novel, Everything, Everything, which was published in 2015.

Everything, Everything

Her second novel, The Sun Is Also a Star, was published in 2016 and was made into a movie in 2019. Yoon has said that she is inspired by her own life experiences when writing her books.

She was born to a Jamaican father and a Korean mother. Yoon has said that growing up, she was always aware of her different background and felt like she didn’t quite fit in anywhere. However, she eventually came to appreciate her unique perspective and used it to inform her writing. Yoon currently lives in Los Angeles with her husband and daughter.

In an interview, Yoon said that she wanted to write a book that would make people feel seen and understood. She wanted to create characters that readers could relate to and see themselves in.
