About the Author
V.C. Andrews was an American novelist who wrote a number of best-selling books including Flowers in the Attic and My Sweet Audrina.
Andrews was born in Portsmouth, Virginia on June 6, 1923. Her father was a shipyard worker and her mother was a homemaker. Andrews began writing at a young age and had her first story published when she was ten years old.
After graduating from high school, Andrews attended Business College in Norfolk, Virginia. She then married a man named Theodore Nugent and had five children with him. The couple eventually divorced and Andrews began working as a secretary to support her family.
In the early 1970s, Andrews began writing novels under the pseudonym “V.C. Andrews”. Her first book, Flowers in the Attic, was published in 1979 and became an instant best-seller. The book was followed by a sequel, Petals on the Wind, which was also successful.
