I Heard You Paint Houses Summary

It begins with Frank Sheeran, a WWII veteran and truck driver from Philadelphia, admitting to his role in the disappearance of Jimmy Hoffa, the president of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters. In subsequent interviews with author Charles Brandt, Sheeran describes his involvement with organized crime during his years as a Teamster and how he ascended within their ranks. He also details his personal relationship with Hoffa and how their friendship ultimately led to Hoffa’s demise.

Sheeran recalls his first meeting with Hoffa, which occurred when he was working as a driver for Russell Bufalino, the head of the Philadelphia crime family. He then describes how he began working for Hoffa and eventually became one of his closest confidants. During this time, Sheeran says he was involved in numerous illegal activities on Hoffa’s behalf, including the rigging of union elections and the use of violence to intimidate Hoffa’s enemies.

Sheeran also describes Hoffa’s involvement with the Mafia, specifically with Bufalino and Carlo Gambino, the head of the Gambino crime family. He claims that Hoffa had close relationships with these men and that they often worked together to further their criminal enterprises.
