About the Author
Sidney Sheldon was an American novelist and television writer. He won an Academy Award for his work on the film The Bachelor and the Bobby-Soxer in 1947. His novels include The Naked Face, The Other Side of Midnight, Bloodline, Rage of Angels, If Tomorrow Comes, Masters of the Game, and The Doomed.
Sheldon was born Sidney Schechtel in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Natalie Marcus and Percy Schechtel. His parents were Jewish immigrants from Russia. Sheldon’s grandfather died when he was six years old, and his father later abandoned the family. When he was nine years old, his mother took him to live with her grandparents in Denver, Colorado.
Sheldon dropped out of high school at the age of seventeen and began working as a reporter for the Denver Post. He later moved to New York City, where he worked as a freelance writer and sold his first screenplay, The Bachelor and the Bobby-Soxer, in 1947.
Sheldon’s first novel, The Naked Face, was published in 1954. His second novel, The Other Side of Midnight, was published in 1973 and was a bestseller. Sheldon’s other novels include Bloodline, Rage of Angels, If Tomorrow Comes, Masters of the Game, and The Doomed.
