Of Mice and Men Summary

The book follows the story of two ranch hands, George and Lennie, who are forced to find new work after getting into trouble in their previous town. They eventually end up working on a ranch in California during the Great Depression. The other workers on the ranch include Curley, the owner’s son, and Curley’s wife.

George is a small, wiry man who is the thinker of the two and often has to protect Lennie, who is large and strong but not very smart. One night, while they are camped out in a field, Lennie asks George to tell him again the story of their farm that they are going to own one day. George obliges, even though it’s a story he’s told many times before.

The next day, they head into town to get supplies and are met by Slim, the ranch foreman. He takes a liking to them and offers to have them work on his ranch. They agree and are given their first job tasks. That night, around the campfire, Lennie asks George to tell him the story of the farm again. George once again obliges, even though he’s getting tired of telling it.
