About the Author
One of Us Is Lying was written by Karen M. McManus. She is a New York Times bestselling author of young adult fiction. Her other books include Two Can Keep a Secret and Three Truths and a Lie.
Karen M. McManus was born in 1974 in Massachusetts, United States. After studying English at the University of Notre Dame and Simmons College, she worked as a high school librarian. In 2016, her debut novel One of Us Is Lying became a New York Times bestseller.
McManus’s second book, Two Can Keep a Secret, was published in 2017, and her third book, Three Truths and a Lie was published in 2018. She is also the author of the short story “The Parker Inheritance”.
One of Us Is Lying was inspired by the classic mystery novel And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie. McManus wanted to write a modern mystery that was just as suspenseful and twisty as Christie’s novel. She also drew inspiration from her own experience as a high school librarian. Many of the secrets in the book are based on real-life secrets that students have shared with her over the years.
