About the Author
Sara Shepard was born in New York, New York, and raised in Rosemont, Pennsylvania. Shepard attended Conestoga High School in Berwyn, Pennsylvania, and then graduated from NYU with a degree in English. After college, she worked for an advertising agency before getting her MFA from Brooklyn College.
She starts his writing career by penning the script for an episode of Law & Order: SVU. She then wrote two episodes of the show. But it was her first novel, Pretty Little Liars that got her real recognition. The book became a New York Times bestseller and was followed by nine more books in the series. A TV show adaptation of Pretty Little Liars debuted on ABC Family in 2010 and ran for seven seasons.
In addition to Pretty Little Liars, Shepard has also written The Lying Game series and the Heiresses series. Her work won her the 2009 Edgar Award for Best Young Adult Mystery. She also writes regularly for Cosmopolitan magazine. Shepard currently lives in Arizona with her family.
In an interview, Shepard said that she gets her ideas for books from “wanting to read a good book and not being able to find one.” She also takes inspiration from TV shows, movies, and real-life events.
