Show Your Work Summary

The book follows a simple premise: if you want to get noticed, don’t try to sell your work; instead, try to show it off. The book is a guide on how to do just that.

The notion of “showing your work” has several connotations. For one, it can mean simply sharing what you’re working on with others, in the hopes that they will find it interesting or useful. This is the most basic level of sharing, and it’s what most people think of when they hear the phrase.

But there’s more to it than that. Showing your work can also mean putting your work out there in a way that allows others to use it, learn from it, or be inspired by it. This is the level that Austin Kleon is interested in. He’s not just interested in sharing his work; he’s interested in making it useful to others.

If you’re an artist or creative professional, then Show Your Work is a must-read. It’s a short, quick read that is full of useful advice. And even if you’re not an artist or creative professional, the book has something to offer. The principles Kleon lays out can be applied to anyone who wants to get noticed for their work.
