About the Author
Wai-Fah Chen is a professor of civil engineering and the director of the Pacific Earthquake Engineering Research Center (PEER) at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. He is a recognized expert in the fields of structural engineering, earthquake engineering, and computational mechanics, and has published numerous research papers and books on these topics.
Dr. Chen received his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in civil engineering from the National Taiwan University, and his Ph.D. in civil engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He has held academic positions at several universities, including the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and the University of California, Berkeley, before joining the University of Hawaii in 1991.
Dr. Chen has received numerous awards and honors for his contributions to the field of civil engineering. He is a Fellow of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and the International Association for Bridge and Structural Engineering (IABSE), and has served as the President of the International Association for Computational Mechanics (IACM).
