The Ship of the Dead Summary
The novel follows Magnus Chase, who is a 16-year-old demigod son of the god Frey. Magnus has been living on the streets of Boston ever since his mother’s death when he was fourteen years old. In The Ship of the Dead, Magnus discovers that his long-lost uncle, Randolph Chase has died leaving him with a strange relic: an ancient Viking warship called the Sister of Naglfar.
Magnus has soon approached a mysterious woman named Sif who tells him that he must command the ship on an epic quest to rescue the gods from their doom at Ragnarök and that his uncle died protecting this relic from their enemies.

About the Author
Rick Riordan is an American author, popularly known for writing the Percy Jackson & The Olympians series. He was born in San Antonio, Texas on June 5th, 1964. He is a graduate of the University of Texas and has written several books for young readers as well as adult fiction.
Rick Riordan start writing in 1998, with the novel Big Red Tequila. After that, he wrote a series of detective novels featuring Tres Navarre and soon moved on to writing for children in 2003. This was when he wrote his first book in the Percy Jackson & The Olympians series, entitled The Lightning Thief.
His work has won several awards, including the 2009 Red House Children’s Book Award and the 2008 Newbery Medal. He has also been honored with numerous nominations such as the 2012 Goodreads Choice Awards for Best Middle Grade & Children’s Fiction and was also shortlisted for the Carnegie Medal in 2015.
Riordan has gone on to write many more books within the same series, and in 2017 released The Ship of the Dead – the third book in his Magnus Chase and The Gods of Asgard series. This novel follows Magnus’ quest to find Thor’s lost hammer before Ragnarok can happen.
