About the Author
Rick Riordan is an American author, who has written several successful fantasy novels for children and young adults. He is best known for his Percy Jackson & the Olympians novel series which was adapted into two feature films by 20th Century Fox.
Rick Riordan was born in San Antonio, Texas in 1964. After graduating from Alamo Heights High School in 1982, he attended the University of Texas at Austin where he earned a Bachelors degree in English and History. He worked as an English teacher for 15 years until his first book was published.
In an interview, Riordan said that he began writing The Sword of Summer while taking a break from teaching after Percy Jackson & the Olympians was published. He wanted to take on a new challenge – Norse mythology – and create something completely different. Over three years, he wrote the book with much research about the stories and gods of Norse mythology.
