Vampire Academy Summary
The novel tells the story of Rosemarie “Rose” Hathaway, a seventeen-year-old dhampir girl, who is learning to become a bodyguard (or guardian) for her best friend and princess Vasilisa “Lissa” Dragomir, a Moroi Vampire. The series is set in St. Vladimir’s Academy, a school for Moroi and dhampirs, which is located in the fictional town of Baia, Montana in the United States.
The novel opens with Rose waking up from a dream in which she sees Lissa being attacked by a Strigoi, which is the deadliest type of vampire. She then realizes that she has been having dreams about Lissa ever since they were separated six years ago. Rose and Lissa are then reunited at St. Vladimir’s Academy, where they must learn to control their powers and protect themselves from the dangers that lurk both inside and outside the school walls.
Rose is determined to protect Lissa at all costs and trains hard to become a guardian, but she soon realizes that she may not be able to save her friend from the darkness that is threatening to consume her. When tragedy strikes, Rose must decide whether to save herself or risk everything to save Lissa.
