Hannah Kent is an Australian author, born on March 1985 in Adelaide, Australia. She studied at Flinders University, where she completed a Bachelor of Arts with Honours and a Master of Arts in Creative Writing. While studying, she developed an interest in Scandinavian history and culture, which led to her research into the story of Agnes Magnúsdóttir, the subject of her debut novel, Burial Rites.
Kent’s writing has been influenced by her interest in history and her fascination with the lives of ordinary people. In an interview with The Guardian, she explained that she is drawn to stories that “challenge our ideas of what’s important, what’s meaningful, what’s worthy of attention.”
