Diary of a Wimpy Kid Summary

The book starts off with Greg Heffley, the main character, and his best friend Rowley Jefferson going to get ice cream. Then, they go to an amusement park called Funland. When they get there, Greg and Rowley go on different rides. They meet up again and ride the Roller Coaster. After the ride, Rowley throws up and they go home.

The next day, Greg’s mom tells him that he has to go to Dairy Queen with his dad and little brother, Manny. When they get there, his dad runs into an old friend, Frank Heffley. They start talking about their kids and how they’re doing. Frank’s son, Rodrick, is in a rock band and is doing very well. Greg’s dad is proud of him, but he is not so proud of Greg. He tells Frank that Greg is a ‘wimpy kid’.

Overall, the book is about Greg trying to fit in and not be a wimpy kid. He doesn’t want to be like his dad says he is. He wants to be popular and have people like him. However, no matter what he does, things just don’t seem to go his way. In the end, he learns that it’s okay to be yourself and that you don’t need to be popular to be happy.

About the Author

Jeff Kinney is an American writer and cartoonist. He is the author of the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series and several other books. His books have been published in more than 40 countries and have sold more than 150 million copies worldwide.

Diary of a Wimpy Kid

Kinney was born and raised in Fort Washington, Maryland. He graduated from the University of Maryland in 1993 with a degree in computer science. After college, he worked as a designer for a software company called Knowledge Adventure. He also created a comic strip called “Igdoof” for the newspaper The Diamondback.

In 1998, Kinney’s online journal, “FunBrain,” was launched. The website featured various games, quizzes, and other activities for children. “FunBrain” was later acquired by Family Education Network.

In 2004, Kinney’s first book, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, was published. The book was an instant success and led to the creation of nine more books in the series. The books have been adapted into two feature films, Diary of a Wimpy Kid (2010) and Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules (2011).
