Judy Blume is an American author best known for her young adult fiction. She has written more than two dozen novels, including Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret, and Blubber. Her books have been translated into more than thirty-five languages and have sold over eighty million copies worldwide.
Judy Blume was born Judith Sussman on February 12, 1938, in Elizabeth, New Jersey. She grew up in a Jewish family with two older sisters. Blume’s parents were both teachers. Her mother also worked as a librarian. As a child, Judy loved to read and write stories. After graduating from high school, she attended college at Rutgers University. She married John M. Blume, a lawyer, in 1958. The couple had four children together.
Judy Blume began her writing career in 1969 with the publication of Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret. The book was an instant success and has become a classic of young adult literature.
