About the Author

Ally Condie is the author of Matched. She was born in Utah, grew up in Georgia, and now lives with her husband and three sons outside of Salt Lake City, Utah. She graduated from Brigham Young University with a degree in English and edits for a small press. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, writing, baking, making music, hiking, and spending time with her family.

Matched

Condie said that the idea for Matched came to her while she was working as an editor and reading a lot of submissions from first-time authors. She noticed that many of them were “writing the book they wanted to write, not the book that would actually sell.” She decided to write a book that she thought would be commercial but also had a message that was important to her.

Her work on the novel took her about two years, during which time she did a lot of research on topics like arranged marriages and dystopian societies. She also drew inspiration from her own experiences with dating and relationships.

In an interview with The Daily Herald, she said that she wanted to write a book that would “get people thinking about the role love plays in our lives and how much control we really have over who we fall in love with.”
