The story is set in 24th century BC India and revolves around the life of Lord Rama, the scion of the Ikshvaku dynasty, and his journey from being a prince of Ayodhya to becoming the Maryada Purushottama.

The sequel to the Scion of Ikshvaku titled Sita: Warrior of Mithila, was released on 5 July 2017. The book explores the life of Sita, Ram’s wife, and her journey from being a princess of Mithila to becoming the queen of Ayodhya.

Scion of Ikshvaku Summary

The book follows the story of Ram, the scion of Ikshvaku and heir to the throne of Ayodhya. It is a tale of love, loss, betrayal, revenge, and redemption. The story begins with the death of Dashrath, Ram’s father and king of Ayodhya. Dashrath’s wife Kaushalya is pregnant with Ram’s younger brother Lakshman at the time of his death, which throws the kingdom into chaos.

Ram is forced to leave Ayodhya and wander in the forests for 14 years in exile. During this time, he meets Sita, the daughter of Janaka, king of Mithila. Sita is abducted by Ravana, the king of Lanka, and Ram sets out to rescue her with the help of his brother Lakshman and Hanuman, the monkey god.

The book culminates in the Battle of Lanka, where Ram kills Ravana and rescues Sita. He returns to Ayodhya with Sita and is crowned king. The book ends with a glimpse into the future, where Ram’s sons are shown to be in conflict with each other.

Amish Tripathi (born 18 October 1974) is an Indian author, known for his novels The Immortals of Meluha, The Secret of the Nagas, and The Oath of the Vayuputras. He has written three books in the Shiva Trilogy series.

Tripathi, after working in finance and marketing for 14 years, became a full-time writer with his first book The Immortals of Meluha in February 2010. According to Tripathi, the idea of writing a novel came to him when he was on a long train journey in December 2008 from Mumbai to Kolkata. The journey took 22 hours, and he had nothing to do during that time.

Tripathi’s books have been translated into multiple languages including Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Marathi, and Gujarati. His books have sold over 5 million copies in India. His novels have been listed among the top-selling books in India.

In an interview with The Hindu, Tripathi said that he writes for himself and not for any particular audience. He also said that he does not consider himself a religious person, but his novels are based on religious themes because he believes that religion is the “most important characteristic of Indian society”.
