Sita: Warrior of Mithila Summary
The story begins with Sita’s birth and how she was found in a field by King Janaka. He raised her as his own daughter and she grew up to be a strong and independent young woman. When she was of age, Janaka held a contest to find a suitable husband for her. Rama, the son of King Dasharatha of Ayodhya, won the contest and Sita became his wife.
Sita and Rama lived happily together for many years until one day, Rama was forced to leave Sita and go into exile for fourteen years. During this time, Sita was kidnapped by the demon king Ravana and taken to his kingdom of Lanka. Rama fought a long and hard battle to rescue her, finally defeating Ravana and rescuing Sita.
However, even after all that she had been through, Sita’s troubles were not over. People began to question her character and whether or not she had remained faithful to Rama during her captivity. Sita refused to undergo any test or prove her innocence, instead choosing to walk into fire. She emerged unscathed, proving once and for all that she was indeed a pure and chaste woman. Finally, she was reunited with Rama and they lived happily ever after.
