About the Author
Shannon Messenger is the author of the Keeper of the Lost Cities series. She was born in Orange County, California, and graduated from the University of California Berkeley with a degree in English Literature. Shannon Messenger started writing at an early age and wrote her first novel when she was just fourteen years old.
Shannon Messenger has been writing ever since and has written many books, mostly for middle-grade and young-adult readers. Her books have been published in more than 20 countries, including the US and UK. Her work has received numerous awards, including a Cybils Award for best Middle Grade/Young Adult novel and an International Literacy Association Young Adults’ Choice award.
In an interview with Scholastic, Shannon Messenger said that she was inspired to write the Keeper of the Lost Cities series after dreaming up a world with elven characters and then not being able to let it go. She has also said that her books have been heavily influenced by her own experiences in high school and college.
